Singin' In The Rain!

11/22/13

Hey Y'all!

Hope you are having a great week! This week has been quite the roller-coaster, but I guess I'm starting to realize that every week is, so I'd better hold on tight! Still got 16 more months to go!

First of all, we had another lesson with Matthew Walden!!! But the unexpected happened!

During our last lesson, we invited him to church, but he expressed that he would have to "warm up to it" because he considers himself "an introvert." So, this week, we invited him to have our lesson in the church building and give him a tour! (Trying to help him "warm up") and he agreed! We were really excited! I was so positive that this would be a pivitol lesson, and he would feel the spirit really strong in the quiet chapel when we taught him a lesson.

Well, my companion and I show up a little early, and there are cars everywhere! We started to panic, because we had not realized that there was some kind of activity that would be happening! Well, we walked up to the door, and there was a very large poster of a pregnant woman... There was a convention happening about pregnancy and home births.... No joke.

I started to panic as I realized that we were about to teach one of our most important investigators, who was a 30 year old male, unmarried, only child, and he was about to enter a very odd setting! This was going to be his first impression of an LDS church. Oh boy. Who has pregnancy convetions at our church building?!? So weird.

Anyway, he shows up and he thought it was weird at first, but after we explained, it was fine. We had a really powerful lesson about the Book of Mormon and showed him a really great mormon message called: A Testimony of the Book of Mormon. Y'all should watch it and look it up on lds.org

He says that he will continue to read the Book of Mormon and pray to see if he believes that it is true. HE IS GOING TO GET AN ANSWER AND BE BAPTIZED! I just know it! But please continue to pray that he will recieve a very clear answer that the Book of Mormon is true, and that this is the true Church! It would be so cool if he got baptized before the end of the transfer!

Last night there was another tornado watch, and everyone at church was telling us to be careful because bad weather was going to hit at around 5. We were listening, kind of, but obviously should have paid more attention. On Saturday our car broke down, so we had to take it in, so we decided to tract Sunday evening. We met some really nice people and taught a few lessons, but by around six it started to get stormy. But Sister Tenny and I weren't scared of a little rain! Little did we know... Ten minutes later, we were SOAKED to the bone. Literally. Good thing it was time to start walking back to our appartment, because we didn't dare knock on doors because we looked so wet and scary! We had make-up running down our faces, and we could hardly keep our eyes open because it was raining so hard!! I have never been so wet in my life. It was like someone was pouring buckets of water on our heads! It was so wet, but it was soooo fun! We couldn't stop laughing though we couldn't see a thing and we were freezing! It was one of those nights you definitley remember :)

I prayed so hard that night that my scriptures would be ok in my bag! I zipped it shut, but I didn't think the leather would hold all of that water out! Heavenly Father totally answered my prayer. Everything in my bag was water damaged EXCEPT my scriptures. All of the pamphlets and Book of Mormons, my planner, the pass along cards, my notebook, all soaking wet. But my scriptures were untouched. He cares about even the small things that matter to us. I know that is true!

I LOVE conference. All of the talks were so great. I try to read them whenever I have a spare moment, and I carry my Ensign with me everywhere. One of my favorite talks was from Elder Bednar. I'll leave you with a quote from his talk:

"Sometimes we may ask God for success, and he gives us physical and mental stamina. We might plead for prosperity, and we receive enlarged perspective and increased patience, or we petition for growth and are blessed with the gift of grace. He may bestow upon us conviction and confidence as we strive to achieve worthy goals. And when we plead for relief from physical, mental, and spiritual difficulties, He may increase our resolve and resilience."

Wow. I know that this is true. Keep doing the hard things, like reading your scriptures, serving others, and sincerely sacrificing to help further the Lords kingdom, because THAT is what helps us grow, and THAT is why we are here. And when you have trials, know that the Lord is blessing you with the strength to press forward. You can do it! He loves you, and so do I :)

Have a great week!

Sister Hulme
