Obedience

Obedience has become a theme in my life lately, as I have been trying to prepare for a mission. In Alma 57:21, it talks about the young stripling warriors and tells you their keys to success- strict obedience and faith. They obeyed what ever Helaman tell them with exactness, and they are blessed for it. None of them die in battle.

“Yea, and they did obey and observe to perform every word of command with exactness; yea, and even according to their faith it was done unto them and I did remember the words which they said unto me that their mothers had taught them.”

Obedience is the first law of heaven, and they are really emphasizing it in my mission prep class. It is a key attribute of Christ that missionaries and saints strive to obtain. Elder L. Tom Perry says, “The discipline contained in daily obedience and clean living and wholesome lives builds and armor around you of protection and safety from the temptations that beset you as you proceed through mortality.” The obedient are protected. Sometimes it is an act of faith when you don’t know the reasons behind what you are being asked to do. But as you obey, you are protected, and your faith and testimony increases. I am striving to become more obedient and to have faith in the things that I am told to do. This will increase my trust in God, helping me to become more like a stripling warrior like in verse twenty-seven. It says, “Now this was the faith of these of whom I have spoken; they are young, and their minds are firm, and they do put their trust in God continually.”
